August 18-19 Choral Workshops

Jul 18, 2014

Join us for two days of choral renewal here at 5 Michael Street, August 18th and 19th.

Monday the 18th features the three sessions aimed at choral directors. Beyond the Keyboard: Discussing the Creative Use of the Church Choir led by our own Lynn McRuer and Alison Clark begins at 9:30am with a Wake-Up Worship.  Topics to be explored include the Choir as a Worship Resource, Choir Savers and Strategies for Saying 'goodbye'.  In the afternoon starting at 1:30pm,  Revealing Music Ministry in Our Time is led by Christopher Dawes, Director of Canada's Summer Institute of Church Music.  This session explores the musician's role, skills, tools and ideas, and ends with an afternoon worship service.   Our Annual Sacred Music Reading Session begins at 7:00pm Monday evening as we raise our voices in song with new music for the church year.

Tuesday the 19th we begin at 9:30am with Taming the Wobble: Strategies for Singers and Directors.  Our clinician is Dr. Rachel Rensink-Hoff, Assistant Professor at McMaster University where she directs the choral program and teachers vocal-choral pedagogy, conducting and music education.  This session is interactive for singers of  'mature' voice and choral directors!  At 1:30 pm, Dr. Leonard Enns leads The Word Made Sound: Ensemble Tone, Blend & Expressive Performance.  This session will help us improve our choral sound, with text as the starting point.   Both these interactive sessions are aimed at singers and choral directors.
